“Fantastic” was the way Alexander Rossi described the Firestone test at Cota, as he believes the series made the correct decision to race in Austin.
The Andretti Autosport-Honda driver was one of three cars that took to the Austin circuit to collect data for tyre supplier Firestone.
Rossi completed test runs on several tyre compounds and turbo settings, as all involved decide to not disclose laptimes.
Rossi expressed confidence after the test, “our car around that track is awesome! I had a smile on my face for the entire 90 laps and the package is great.”
Despite extensive running, Rossi was unable to draw comparisons with his F1 experience at the track.
“[In 2015] the whole time it was wet!” he explained, “and in 2013 driving for Caterham as test driver I did one free practice in the dry. But I honestly don’t remember too much about that.”
Also at the track a third, unnamed driver took to the circuit, adding speculation as to who this was and whether it was a new entry for 2019.
